Plex Media Server before 1.43.3.10861 allows an authenticated user to request arbitrary internal or external addresses via the '/video/:/transcode/universal' path parameter.

## CrowdSec analysis

[CVE-2026-96655](https://euvd.enisa.europa.eu/vulnerability/CVE-2026-96655) is a server-side request forgery vulnerability in Plex Media Server before 1.43.3.10861. The universal transcoder accepts an HTTP URL in its `path` parameter and fetches it without a host allowlist, letting an authenticated user make the server request arbitrary internal or external addresses. It is one of the steps of the Plex2Shell exploitation chain.

CrowdSec has been tracking this vulnerability and its exploits since 28th of October 2026.

CrowdSec has not observed any significant exploitation activity targeting CVE-2026-96655 across its network. As a result, no community-driven trend analysis is available for this vulnerability at this time.

Attackers send requests to `/video/:/transcode/universal/start` (or `start.m3u8`, `decision`) with an attacker-chosen URL in the `path` query parameter, e.g. `path=http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/`, instead of a library path.
