## Description

Vulnerability in Spring Cloud when substituting the profile parameter from a request made to the Spring Cloud Config Server configured to the native file system as a backend, because it was possible to access files outside of the configured search directories. This issue affects Spring Cloud: from 3.1.X before 3.1.13, from 4.1.X before 4.1.9, from 4.2.X before 4.2.3, from 4.3.X before 4.3.2, from 5.0.X before 5.0.2.

## CrowdSec analysis

[CVE-2026-22739](https://euvd.enisa.europa.eu/vulnerability/CVE-2026-22739) is a path traversal vulnerability in Spring Cloud Config Server when configured with the native file system backend. Attackers can exploit this flaw by manipulating the profile parameter in requests, allowing unauthorized access to files outside the intended directories. This could lead to exposure of sensitive information or limited modification of files, posing a significant risk to affected Spring Cloud deployments.

CrowdSec has been tracking this vulnerability and its exploits since 1st of April 2026.

CrowdSec has not observed any significant exploitation activity targeting CVE-2026-22739 across its network. As a result, no community-driven trend analysis is available for this vulnerability at this time.

Attackers exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted requests to endpoints like `/application/` with encoded path traversal sequences (e.g., `%2F..%2F..%2F..%2F..%2Fetc`) to access sensitive files outside the intended directories on Spring Cloud Config Server instances.
