## CrowdSec analysis

[CVE-2023-31059](https://euvd.enisa.europa.eu/vulnerability/CVE-2023-31059) is a directory traversal vulnerability in Repetier Server through version 1.4.10, allowing remote attackers to read sensitive files, including those containing credentials, by exploiting crafted path sequences. This flaw could be leveraged to gain unauthorized access to confidential information, posing a significant risk to system security.

CrowdSec has been tracking this vulnerability and its exploits since 21st of January 2026.

Insights from the CrowdSec network reveal that the attackers trying to exploit CVE-2023-31059 are composed of a fairly even mix of opportunistic and targeted actors. Some attackers employ preliminary reconnaissance, while others use indiscriminate scanning.
Telemetry from the CrowdSec network also shows that exploitation activity for CVE-2023-31059 remains steady week-over-week. Attack volumes are consistent with long-term trends, indicating sustained interest from threat actors. CVE-2023-31059 continues to be an active part of the threat landscape and will likely remain this way for the forseeable future.

Attackers exploit directory traversal by sending requests to URLs containing encoded sequences like `..%5c` within the path, often targeting endpoints such as `/views..%5c.../base/connectionLost.php` to access sensitive files on Repetier Server systems.
