## CrowdSec analysis

[CVE-2018-9206](https://euvd.enisa.europa.eu/vulnerability/CVE-2018-9206) is a critical vulnerability in Blueimp jQuery-File-Upload versions up to 9.22.0 that allows unauthenticated attackers to upload arbitrary files to the server. This flaw can be exploited to execute malicious code, potentially leading to full system compromise, data theft, or further attacks on the hosting environment.

CrowdSec has been tracking this vulnerability and its exploits since 14th of January 2026.

According to CrowdSec data, while opportunistic exploitation dominates, a portion of threat actors trying to exploit CVE-2018-9206 apply basic targeting methods such as port or service detection. This indicates emerging patterns of selective targeting.
CrowdSec network telemetry also shows that exploitation of CVE-2018-9206 has significantly declined over the past week. Attack volumes are well below the long-term average, suggesting attackers are rapidly losing interest. The vulnerability appears to be falling out of active use across most threat landscapes.

Attackers exploit this vulnerability by sending POST requests to file upload endpoints such as `/jQuery-File-Upload/server/php/index.php` or similar paths, uploading files with a `.php` extension to gain remote code execution. Subsequent GET requests to `/files/<filename>.php` are used to verify successful upload and execution.
